Remote Interpreting Services
Currently the Irish Deaf Society is in partnership with Sign Language Interpreters Services and Deafhear to remote interpreting services.
This is a free services to providers to provide an interpreting services via the computer.
A Deaf person can use your services provided you have a broadband connection on your computer and webcam. The interpreter is based in Dublin and will interpret through the computer to the Deaf client sitting beside you.
This trial is currently running every Tuesday and Thursday.
It is a free services.

Equal Status Act 2000 to 2004 section 4 (1):
“For the purposes of this Act discrimination (on grounds of disability) includes a refusal or failure by the provider of a service to do all that is reasonable to accommodate the needs of a person with a disability by providing special treatment or facilities, if without such special treatment or facilities it would be impossible or unduly difficult for the person to avail himself or herself of the service.”
So remember, service providers have a responsibility to make reasonable accommodation to ensure that their services are accessible by people with a disability, including Deaf people.
