Elizabeth Fitzgerald -Chairperson
| Elizabeth Fitzgerald was born in Tipperary but now lives in Dublin. She attended St. Mary’s School for Deaf Girls, in Cabra, for 16 years until she passed her Leaving Cert’, Applied, in 2003. She then attended the Central Technical Institute, Clonmel, where she completed an art portfolio course for a year before attending Rosyln Park College in 2004 for two years where she completed their Business Studies (finance) course. Elizabeth now works in the head office of FAS, where she has been employed for a number of years. She enjoys playing basketball and was on the Munster Deaf Basketball team. She also enjoys art, swimming, soccer, running and photography. She was on the committee of Munster Deaf Sport for a few years and was involved in the decision making regarding their basketball and swimming teams. Elizabeth then joined the board of Greenbow Deaf LGBT and is now the chairperson. Elizabeth has a long-term partner. |
Dominic McGreal – Hon. Secretary
| Dominic McGreal was born in County Mayo where he grew up in a farming family in the west of Ireland. Dominic attended St. Joseph’s school for Deaf boys in Cabra, Dublin, from 1975 to 1989. In 1989, he left school and attended Roslyn Park in Sandymount, Dublin. Dominic joined the Dublin Theatre of the Deaf in 1994 and took part in many plays as an actor until he directed his first play, a Christmas comedy in 2001, which was very successful. Dominic went on to direct many other plays after this for the Dublin Theatre of the Deaf, as well as participating as an actor. During this time Dominic was also an active committee member of several Deaf organisations: the Irish Deaf Youth Association (1994 to 1996), Greenbow Deaf LGBT Society of Ireland (1998 to present), the Irish Deaf News magazine (2005 to present), and the Irish Deaf Men’s Group for a year until 1996, when sadly the organisation ended. Dominic first became involved with Greenbow in 1998 and has been the Hon. Secretary since 2004 to present. Dominic is very passionate about being a part of Greenbow, as he feels it is very important for Deaf LGBT people to have empowerment within the wider LGBT community. |
Eddie Redmond – Hon. Treasurer
| Eddie Redmond was born in Wexford and is currently living in Dublin. He was educated at Beechpark School, Stillorgan, and St. Joseph's School for Deaf Boys in Cabra. After completing his Leaving Cert, he worked in the Revenue Commissioners for 3 years before emigrating to New York in the late 1980's. He worked at the Bankers Trust Company in Manhattan, New York, for 6 and a half years. While working there he attended the Plaza Business College for 3 years and graduated with an Honoured Applied Business Degree in Business Studies. Eddie returned to Ireland in 1996 and worked as a supervisor for Deutsche Bank in Dublin until April 2007. Shortly thereafter he was offered the position of Human Resources Manager for the Irish Deaf Society (IDS) - a position he still holds today. However, Eddie was no stranger to the IDS, as he had been its Vice Chairperson for 8 years prior. He became a TV presenter for Hands On in 1998 and met his partner in 2000. |
Sarah Sheridan - Director
| Sarah Sheridan was born and educated in Dublin. After completing her Leaving Certificate in 1998 she started working in Ulster Bank and then went on to become a mortgage broker. She has always had an interest in Irish Sign Language (ISL) and began ISL evening classes in 2001. In 2004 she began studying at the Centre for Deaf Studies (CDS), Trinity College Dublin. Whilst studying at the CDS, she also worked in the Irish Deaf Society as an administrator for the CEO and the Advocacy department. Sarah completed both the Diploma in Deaf Studies and Diploma in ISL/English Interpreting. After finishing her studies in the CDS she then completed a Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies in Dublin City University (DCU). Her thesis focused on the experiences of members of the Irish Deaf LGBT community. She currently works as a full-time Irish Sign Language/English interpreter. She is also a director on the board of Greenbow. |
